How gay cam tokens work
Updated October 10, 2026. Facts come from each site's own FAQ, terms and help pages.
Cam sites use two billing models. Token sites sell you a balance up front and you spend it. Per-minute sites price private time in money by the minute, either billing your card as you go or drawing on a prepaid wallet. Both work. They just fail in different ways.
Model 1: tokens
Stripchat Men, RoyalCamsGay and CamSoda Men use tokens. You buy a package, the tokens land in your account, and every tip, private minute or ticket comes out of that balance.
The catch is that a token isn't a fixed amount of money. Bigger packages make each token cheaper, so the same show costs a different number of dollars depending on how you bought in. RoyalCamsGay publishes its table, which makes it a good worked example:
| RoyalCamsGay default | Tokens per minute | Approx. $/min at the 47-for-$3.99 pack | Approx. $/min at the largest pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spy mode | 15 | $1.27 | $0.81 |
| Group chat | 30 | $2.55 | $1.62 |
| Private | 60 | $5.09 | $3.25 |
| Full-private | 90 | $7.64 | $4.87 |
Our arithmetic, using the credit-card package table in RoyalCamsGay's FAQ (47 tokens for $3.99; 46,211 for $2,500). Models can set their own prices, so check the room.
Stripchat doesn't show token prices until you log in, so we can't do the same math there. What it does show is a private-show filter with bands of 8–12, 16–24, 32–60 and 90+ tokens, which helps you compare rooms once you know your own per-token cost.
CamSoda publishes its table too: 50 tokens for $6.99 at the small end, 3,100 for $249.99 at the top. Its help centre gives typical private rates of 6–120 tokens a minute, which works out to roughly $0.84–$16.78 a minute at the 50-token pack and $0.48–$9.68 at the biggest (our arithmetic; performers set their own rates).
Model 2: per-minute billing
Streamen runs on Streamate, which bills paid chat by the minute in your local currency. The rate is displayed before you enter. No balance to top up, no leftover tokens.
Streamen adds two extras:
- GOLD: a tip currency where 1 GOLD equals US$1. Easy math, at least.
- Block sessions: prepay 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes for 5%, 10%, 15% or 20% off, if the performer offers it. Use it in one sitting.
Jerkmate uses the same Streamate performers and also meters privates by the minute. Its tip currency is called Gold and is pegged the same way: 1 Gold = $1.
XLoveGay is a hybrid. You prepay credits, but they're plain money in your currency, and each performer posts a per-minute price. It bills by the full minute, so 61 seconds costs two minutes.
Which is cheaper?
Depends on you. Token sites reward buying big, which is great if you're a regular and dangerous if you're not. Per-minute sites charge what you use, a prepaid wallet like XLoveGay's caps you at what you loaded, and Streamen's daily limit (adjustable down to $25) puts a ceiling on a bad night.
Settings that quietly spend money
- Auto top-up / auto-refill. RoyalCamsGay and Stripchat both offer one, and CamSoda calls its version Easy Re-ups. It's opt-in, but once on, your card gets charged whenever the balance runs low.
- Bundled charges. Streamate's terms let it group charges and bill them together, so one statement line can cover several sessions.
- Paid messages. On Stripchat, models can set a token fee for messages.
- Subscriptions. CamSoda's Premium membership renews at US$19.95 a month until you cancel.
